Fred Harrison

Name: Fred Harrison

Position: Research Director, Land Research Trust

Biography: Fred Harrison is Research Director of the London-based Land Research Trust. He is a graduate of University College, Oxford, where he read Politics, Philosophy & Economics. He also studied for the MSc at Birkbeck College, London (1973-74).

His first book, The Power in the Land, introduced his concept of the eighteen year business cycle based on land value fluctuations. His other publications include, The Corruption of Economics, co-authored with Prof. Mason Gaffney of the University of California (1994), The Losses of Nations as an editor (1998) and a chapter on fiscal policy in a prestigious volume elaborating a model for the Russian economy in the 21st century, commissioned by the Russian Academy of Sciences (2000).

Fred Harrison was the only economists to predict the economic crisis of 1992 and the global financial crisis of 2007 - 10 years before they happened. This included ten years during the 1990s advising the Economics Department of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Parliament on the importance of property tax reform and establishment of land markets. He has now turned his attention to the failure of economic analysis and public policies in the market economies.
