Biography: Liam Halligan is a British economist and award winning journalist. His particular areas of interest include emerging markets, commodity markets, UK/US monetary policy and the future world economy trends. In the 1990s Halligan moved to Moscow co-founding Russian Economic Trends – a source of independent data and commentary. Whilst in Russia he wrote a column for The Moscow Times and went on to work for The Economist as a specialist on Russia. In 1996 Liam returned to the UK to become a Political Correspondent for The Financial Times which in turn earned him a job at Channel 4 News as the Economics Correspondent.

He is one of the UK’s leading economics commentators writing for financial newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal as well as presenting Wake Up To Money on BBC Radio Five Live and researching and presenting Dispatches programmes for Channel 4. Since 2003 Liam has written the “Economics Agenda” column in The Sunday Telegraph which won him “Workworld Columnist of the Year” and “Business and Finance Journalist of the Year” at the British Press Awards. Halligan is currently Chief Economist at Prosperity Capital Management, an asset-management firm, with investments worth more than $2bn in Russia, Ukraine and Central Asia.
